چکیده

We consider the following combinatorial version of the Slepian–Wolf coding scheme. Two isolated Senders are given binary strings X and Y respectively; the length of each string is equal to n, and the Hamming distance between the strings is at most γn. The Senders compress their strings and communicate the results to the Receiver. Then the Receiver must reconstruct both strings X and Y . The aim is to minimise the lengths of the transmitted messages. The theoretical optimum of communication complexity for this scheme (with randomised parties) was found in [9], though effective protocols with optimal lengths of messages remained unknown. We close this gap and present for this communication problem a polynomial time randomised protocol that achieves the optimal communication complexity. Our construction employs the technique from A. Smith’s paper [6].

On the Combinatorial Version of the Slepian-Wolf Problem

We study the following combinatorial version of the Slepian–Wolf coding scheme. Two isolated Senders are given binary strings X and Y respectively; the length of each string is equal to n, and the Hamming distance between the strings is at most αn. The Senders compress their strings and communicate the results to the Receiver. Then the Receiver must reconstruct both strings X and Y . The aim is...

Optimal probabilistic polynomial time compression and the Slepian-Wolf theorem: tighter version and simple proofs

We give simplify the proofs of the 2 results in Marius Zimand’s paper Kolmogorov complexity version of Slepian-Wolf coding, proceedings of STOC 2017, p22–32. The first is a universal polynomial time compression algorithm: on input ε > 0, a number k and a string x, computes in polynomial time with probability 1 − ε a program of length k+O(log(|x|/ε)) that outputs x, provided that there exists su...

Approaching the Slepian-Wolf Limit with LDPC Coset Codes

We consider the Slepian-Wolf code design based on LDPC (low-density parity-check) coset codes. We derive the density evolution formula for the Slepian-Wolf coding, equipped with a concentration theorem. An intimate connection between the Slepian-Wolf coding and channel coding is established. Specifically we show that, under density evolution, each Slepian-Wolf source coding problem is equivalen...

On the linear codebook-level duality between Slepian-Wolf coding and channel coding

In this paper, it is shown that each Slepian–Wolf coding problem is related to a dual channel coding problem in the sense that the sphere packing exponents, random coding exponents, and correct decoding exponents in these two problems are mirror-symmetrical to each other. This mirror symmetry is interpreted as a manifestation of the linear codebook-level duality between Slepian–Wolf coding and ...

Approximation of DAC Codeword Distribution for Equiprobable Binary Sources along Proper Decoding Paths

Distributed Arithmetic Coding (DAC) is an effective implementation of Slepian-Wolf coding, especially for short data blocks. To research its properties, the concept of DAC codeword distribution along proper and wrong decoding paths has been introduced. For DAC codeword distribution of equiprobable binary sources along proper decoding paths, the problem was formatted as solving a system of funct...
